Dog Days of Summer

Today is National Dog Day! I have actually never owned a dog. As a child, my mom was allergic; afterwards, I always lived in apartments. The little girl frolicking in this photo might as well be mine, though. We lived together for a couple of years. She thinks of me as her momma, and the feeling is mutual.

One of her favorite places to play is at Rosie’s Dog Beach. Rosie’s is the only legal dog beach in all of L.A. County. And, it’s right here in Belmont Shore! Located on the water at 5000 E. Ocean Blvd. (between Roycroft and Granada,) Rosie’s encompasses 4.1 acres of beach for pups and their humans to run, fetch, dig, roll, swim and more!

Occasionally, there will be a dog meet-up: Frenchie Day, Bulldog Day, etc. Dogs come from all over Southern California to meet and revel in the joys of being able to run free on the beach. What a sight to see those hundreds of dogs!

Whether it’s with a bevy of alike breeds, or just a random afternoon, ya’ gotta’ make sure to take your furry friend to Dog Beach. They will love it. They will thank you for it…
