OK, I know it’s only Friday, but I want y’all to be prepared for Sunday. It’s the Long Beach Marathon! Also, on Saturday morning, The Aquarium is holding a 5K Run/Walk and a Kids Fun Run. You can check out the Marathon’s website for all of the details (under Event Information.)
Now, the most important thing you should be aware of are the street closures. All streets affected close at 5:00 am. they re-open on a “rolling” schedule, based on the racers passing through. If you have to go somewhere, I’d suggest you walk or bike.
Guess what? There’s free parking for BS residents in the beach parking lots along Ocean Blvd. Enter the lots near the Belmont Pool off Granada Ave. and park for free Saturday night through Sunday. Residents can exit the lots on Sunday at Granada Ave. (only) and be escorted across the race course by police.
Finally, check out the race course so you can figure out where you want to watch the race (if you’re not running or volunteering.) It’s gonna’ be hot, and that is a long run. Your cheers and encouragement give the runners support and excitement. It just might be your voice or your wave that gets that one person motivated to get past the finish line…
